    Leaders and Masters registered with Adventure Accreditation International, whether promoting their services, engaged in their duties, representing themselves as AAI Professionals or otherwise engaging in activities associated with AAI, shall:

    1. Hold the safety, health and welfare of the persons in their care in the highest regard and, in so doing, shall manage foreseeable risks to the fullest extent possible appropriate with their training and experience.

    2. Assist colleagues or members of the public who find themselves in difficulty or distress in the outdoors so long as this can be accomplished without jeopardizing the safety of the persons in their care, or their own.

    3. Operate only in areas permitted by their level of certification and in accordance with their AAI remit and scope of their award.

    4. Continue throughout their careers to maintain professional development by engaging regularly in research and practice appropriate to their level of award.

    5. Actively support the AAI Philosophy and Manifesto on Access and Inclusion.

    6. Adhere to well-known or reasonably discoverable local practices and cultural protocols wherever they are operating in the World.

    7. Act at all times as a positive role model and goodwill ambassador for outdoor and adventurous activities and the AAI Worldwide Outdoor Community.



    Leaders and Masters of Adventure Accreditation International when engaged in AAI activities are required at all times to operate to the following principles.

    1. Ensure they are up to date, fully prepared, equipped, fit and healthy and physically and mentally able to lead the session.

    2. Ensure their AAI qualifications and supporting validations eg first aid, rescue and insurance policies are lawfully in force and up to date.

    3. Be presentable, punctual, courteous and enthusiastic.

    4. Be familiar with the operating procedures, rules and emergency action plan where they are operating.

    5. Have researched in advance the conditions and forecasts and planned accordingly.

    6. Carry out staff introduction, briefing and familiarisation for their clients and identify their aims for the session.

    7. Establish whether any clients have special requirements and operate accordingly.

    8. Identify staff requirements for the session and ensure adequate staffing ratios and skills.

    9. Prepare a session plan detailing conditions, clients, aims, staff, equipment, transport, aims, route, numbers and communication protocols.

    10. Monitor clients and conditions and operate a Safety Awareness and Risk Management Strategy at all times.

    11. At all times work with suitable assistants when with young children and/or vulnerable adults.

    12. Be aware and considerate of others operating at the site.

    13. Be observant of environmental impacts and reasonably equipped to address, monitor and report issues.

    14. Review the session with clients and staff and arrange follow on if required.

    15. Attend to equipment and administrative matters including signing in the session plan and incident or injury reports.
