The original means of sliding over mountainous terrain, this style of skiing was invented over a thousand years ago in Norway and was used for journeying from fjord to fjord.  Modern equipment, still retaining the free-heel binding, with deep knee-bending technique has developed high standards of skiing, almost on a par with the alpine style.

    Snow Boarding Option - AAI/37

    Awards in this Activity

This recent snow sport is like surfing on snow – with a short board and fixed bindings, with a sideways stance, fresh powder snow becomes a vertical playground. Swooping down the mountain, spraying snow on every turn, snowboarding has an immediacy and directness, which appeals to a new generation of alpine aficionados.
